FAQ

The sleeve gastrectomy has gained popularity as a safe surgery with good long-term weight loss and low long term complication rates. It is a purely restrictive procedure with weight loss somewhat better than the lap band but less than the gastric bypass.
Patients meeting the criteria of a BMI greater than 30 are candidates for weight loss surgery if they suffer from a co-morbid condition. Also those patients with a BMI of 35 or greater can be a candidate for surgery. The most typical co-morbid conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obstructive sleep apnea.
Morbid Obesity is typically defined as being 100 or more pounds overweight. The most standard and reliable way to measure obesity is by the use of the body mass index or BMI. Body mass index represents the weight in kilograms divided by the height in meters, squared. A person is considered overweight if their BMI is between 25 and 29.9; considered obese if their BMI is over 30, and morbidly obese with BMI above 40.
We offer, Sleeve Gastrectomy.
Although the risk is low there is a possibility of complications after Bariatric Surgery, less than three out of a hundred patients may experience a complication and these can include, bleeding, infection, and need for re-operation.
We see everyone in person for a two week follow-up visit with the doctor and the nutritionist. After this, the doctors’ visits are at three months, six months, nine months and one year. If you are not in town these appointments can be done virtual. Nutritionist visits could be done in person or over the phone and usually occur at week five, three month, 6 month, then can be customized to meet the patients needs as they advance their diet.
The Sleeve Gastrectomy is about fifty minutes.
